Ragnarök

Sora uses Ragnarok in Chain of Memories.

Sleights are special abilities or techniques that can be used by stocking cards in Chain of Memories and Re:Chain of Memories. A sleight requires a specific combination of two or three cards, and are usable by both Sora, Riku, as well as any boss that uses a card deck. Sora may learn his sleights through leveling up, progressing through the story, obtaining certain cards, or by finding them in treasure chests, while Riku starts the game with all of his sleights. Subsequently Sora has the largest sleight repository of everyone by far.

Re:Chain of Memories also made several notable changes to sleights, be it their description, how they actually function in combat, their damage output, when or where they are acquired, as well as removing some and adding new ones.

Obtaining all Sleights grants you the silver trophy and achievement Sleight Master in the 1.5 ReMIX version.

Gameplay[]

The required cards for a sleight vary for each, with the common magic, summon, and friend sleights only needing two cards for the -Ra and Lv 2 versions, but three for the -Ga and Lv 3 versions. attack sleights, specifically those acquired from level ups, always have a specific total value requirement, as well as three different or identical cards. Some sleights also do not specify an exact card, but allow any card of a specific type to be used.

As sleights are used through stocking cards the first card in the set is lost upon activation. This is a non-issue for the short and frequent encounters against various Heartless, where using all sleights for overwhelming firepower is a simple way to end a fight quickly. It is however less efficient against bosses, who can often tank a full deck of sleights, forcing you to reload and be left with less cards. Setting your deck up so that you only lose weaker cards in sleights, or that you can still make strong sleights with the leftovers, is a clever tactic to make the most out of your available cards.

Later on you can rely on strong item cards (specifically the Mega- and Elixir cards) to reload lost cards, making spamming sleights a much more viable strategy. Using cheaper Premium Cards is also a viable way to increase the amount of cards in your deck, as the first card in a sleight becomes unreloadable regardless. Another tactic is to use a friend card followed by a double card sleight, as the friend card is removed anyway, while you can reuse the sleight cards again later.

Elemental types[]

Sleights have an innate element, much like physical and magical attacks, which means they are affected by enemy resistances and weaknesses. The majority are 'neutral', with several being fire, ice, and thunder elemental (such as Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder Raid). Reflect Raid was changed from neutral to physical in the remake, making it the only sleight of that type. Lethal Frame and Magnet spiral are the only two sleights that are typeless, making them unaffected, which makes the former especially useful against humanoid bosses due to their innate resistance against the neutral element.

Enemy cards[]

Only a few enemy cards directly affect sleights, aside from those that boost a specific damage type that a sleight uses. Riku Replica's Sleight Lock lets you keep cards that would otherwise become unreloadable due to being used in a sleight, while Marluxia's Double Sleight makes you use sleights twice in a row. Lastly Ansem's Sleightblind will hide the user's stocked cards from their opponent, although the exact effect was absent in the remake due to the absence of Link Mode.

Sora's sleights[]

Sora will automatically unlock the common magic, summon, and friend sleights provided he has unlocked (and subsequently acquired) one of the required cards. The sleights unlocked through leveling up are primarily attack sleights, with a few magic ones later on. Sora will be able to acquire a new sleight at level 2, 7, 12, and so on for every next fifth level up to the 50s. Not picking a sleight when it is available will delay it it, thus the sleights per level are always acquired in the same order.

Also note that all below sleight descriptions are from the remake version, which might not necessarily be accurate to the original GBA version. In particular several remake sleights require timed button presses to fully execute it, in which instance the text is listed as [interact button], as the exact key depends on the platform that is being played on.

Attack sleights[]

Except for Trinity Limit all attack sleights are only acquired through leveling up, and have unique card requirements; either needing three different or identical attack cards, and also needing to be in a specific value range.

Magic sleights[]

Generic magic sleights[]

The 'common' magic sleights are automatically available when the related magic card has been unlocked, at which point you only need to acquire enough of the exact cards to be able to use them. Conversely the stronger sleights do not really deal more damage compared to using the cards separately, they will only have the potential of hitting more enemies. Cura, Curaga, and Graviga are the only real exception.

Specialized magic sleights[]

The 'specialized' magic sleights include a wide variety of magic-themed sleights. These have the largest number of new sleight additions; Lethal Frame, Magnet Spiral, Freeze, Firaga Burst, and Raging Storm. Conversely several are no longer included in the remake; Gravity Raid, Stop Raid, Homing Fira, and Firaga Break.

Two new sleights are unique to the Bumble-Rumble mini-game; Honey Storm and Honey Pot.

Boss sleights[]

Humanoid bosses are also capable of using sleights with their own cards, and (except for one instance) always without concern for the card value, although they will prefer to use high value cards to avoid making sleights that are too easy to break. The inevitable loss of cards through sleights by bosses is alleviated by their very large decks, the fact that they only usually have up to three cards to play in any case, and the use of the Elixir card to restore their entire deck.

Note that the game differentiates boss cards by the face (the angle or direction it is looking at for example) and the card image's background color, this can make it somewhat hard to tell what exact cards are used in a sleight.
