<!-- This article requires descriptions of each dive's appearance for both Sora and Riku, as well as the challenge for completion of each one. A general Strategy section should be made about dives in general. A separate section should be made towards the bottom of the page discussing the unusual dives which are not related to the world dives, these include the Chernabog battle in Symphony of Sorcery, Dive to the Heart and the end credits.

Upon entering a new world, the player will be automatically entered in the respective world's dive; alternatively, the player can select a world in the world map and choose to re-play the dive. Once the initial cinematic is over, the player will begin the free-fall. During the fall, the player will have to avoid the various obstacles that appear as well as the enemies, although they can be attacked and reward the player with points and ocassional health orbs. Any contact with them will knock back the player and cause the character to lose a portion of it's health; should the health bar drop to zero or the timer ends, the dive will end prematurely. (I'm not 100% sure tho, need to test)

Once the main boss is defeated or the objective is reached and the final ring is crossed, the dive will end and reward the player with a rank based on their score and time taken. (Need to confirm if you get a reward for the first time it's completed or if the rank is improved).-->

Dive Mode (ダイブモード Daibu Mōdo?) is a mini-game that appears in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. The mini-game is compulsory when traveling to a world for the first time, and is also available as an optional mini-game from that point onward. Sora and Riku must complete a themed free-falling stage with a given objective for each Dive, such as earning a set quantity of points or defeating enemies.

Commands

  • Circle Pad: Alters Sora and Riku's position during the dive.
  • Template:Button Diving Strike: Performs a charge that, when used against a Nightmare or certain objects, will destroy them.
  • Template:Button Aerial Brake: Slows down the speed of the dive for a few moments.
  • Template:Button Magic: Uses one charge of Mega Flare or Laser Spin.
  • Template:Button Dodging Deflect: Creates a shield that deflects incoming attacks; when used while moving it will also generate a dash.

Dive Descriptions

Traverse Town

Dive Mode Mega Flare KH3D

Sora using Mega Flare during the Traverse Town Dive.

Sora

At the start of the dive, the background is extremely dark, and features buildings in the same style as Traverse Town. Once the ring is crossed, the background will change drastically, showing a red, blue and purple cloudy background that soon begin to contain more buildings which are lit up with the familiar Traverse Town color scheme. Once the second ring is crossed, the color scheme will change to natural tones having a mixture of dark blue and grey while the buildings retain their natural brown colors. During the dive the most prominent obstacles are banners, announcements and ledges. Other obstacles include two Meowjesty plushies.

Riku

Upon beginning, the dive will feature dark, deep blue colors with rock fragments in the background. After plunging through a ring, the background will change to various tones of reds and the fragments will be replaced by a mixture of red, orange and green buildings. Banners, announcements, buildings, ledges and a pink Meowjesty plush appear as obstacles during the entire dive.

La Cité des Cloches

Sora

When starting the dive the only visible thing are deep blue clouds alongside castle towers as obstacles. Eventually, the scenery changes to become a light hailstorm with lighter blue colors; moments after the storm begins, the castle towers will reappear together with ice rocks. After the first ring, the clouds will morph into a deep red tone while continuing to present the hailstorm. The towers continue to appear until a spiral of the city's buildings show up. Right after crossing the second ring the background will have dim grey tones together with the hailstorm. The ice rocks return alongside white lasers but only during the duration of the hailstorm. Eventually it will end, leaving a clear grey sky and changing the obstacles to bells and stone walls.

Riku

The background of the dive represents a birds-eye view of the city while the passing, floating buildings represent the style of those found within the city; some of them include houses, towers, Notre Dame and tents. Confetti can also be seen flying around, however, together with the buildings they seem to appear sporadically during the dive.

Special Dives

Chernabog

After Young Xehanort has confronted Riku in Symphony of Sorcery, he summons Chernabog. The battle against the demon is held in a form of Dive Mode, in which Riku must fly horizontally, rather than vertically, such as in a regular dive.

Dive to the Heart

Toward the end of the game, Riku dives into Sora's heart in order to awaken his sleeping friend. Riku must tag 30 floating Sora figures in order to complete this free fall.

Ending Credits

During the credits, gold letters appear among the text. If all the letters are tagged, then a secret message will appear upon the credits' conclusion.
